Ron Cameron-Lewis

Ron Cameron-Lewis (Jurist/Dramaturge)

Ron Cameron-Lewis, Professor Emeritus, Music Theatre Department, Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, taught and directed there from 1973 to 2009. He also taught and directed for the joint Sheridan/UTM Theatre and Drama Studies program since its inception.

Ron is communications consultant for the International Palliative Care Leadership Development Initiative sponsored by the Institute of Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice, coaching palliative care specialists from 20 countries.

Ron has directed nearly 100 productions for educational, community and regional theatres, such as Huron Country Playhouse, the Lighthouse Festival Theatre and the Arts and Culture Centre in St. John's. He conducted Master Classes and coached acting at the Charlottetown Festival for two seasons. He was text coach for the 2009 Gemini-award winning production of Othello for CBC TV and radio, and is voice coach for emerging CTV photojournalists.

His textbook Acting Skills for Life is in its third edition with The Dundurn Group. Other literary projects include a dozen original scripts and editorial work.

Ron has adjudicated over 2,000 productions around Ontario and in the USA at state, regional and national levels. In June 2010, he will adjudicate the AACT International Festival in Venice, Florida, involving 14 companies from five continents.

Receiving a BA from UWO, Mr. Cameron-Lewis trained in theatre at the Banff Centre, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in UK and the University of London. He received a 2009 Award from the National Institute for Staff & Organizational Development in Austin, Texas, the President's Award of Excellence at Sheridan and the 2004 Maggie Bassett Award from Theatre Ontario for sustained commitment to the development of theatre throughout the province.

This is Ron's fourth season as jurist/dramaturge for the Playwrights of Spring Festival.
